Breastfeeding Challenges

Lots of mums worry at this stage about challenges they might have breastfeeding, such as cracked nipples, engorgement, mastitis, feeling you don’t have enough milk, not liking the experience of feeding or feeling overwhelmed.

None of these issues are inevitable, and with the right support, information and determination mums can usually overcome anything. Off to A Good Start gives lots of practical tips on how to cope if breastfeeding isn’t straightforward in their troubleshooting guide – and of course your midwife, health visitor / family nurse or breastfeeding peer supporter are all available too.

We don’t go into a lot of detail about how to access treatment for specific challenges like mastitis or thrush, because the detail can be a bit overwhelming. We think it’s much more important to feel confident and knowledgeable about how breastfeeding works, how to tell if it is going well and where to get support from if it becomes challenging.
