Feeding Plans

Hopefully you’re already feeling supported and have gained lots of information to prepare you for your feeding journey.

We also want to reassure you that NHS staff won’t ask you directly how you intend to feed your baby in the antenatal period and we fully support your feeding choices, whatever they are. It is important to know that mums who make a decision to breastfeed before baby arrives are more likely to reach their goal than mums who are undecided at birth.

It can be helpful to make an infant feeding plan with your health care professional and discuss this with those around you. We have some suggestions about what to include in our picture below. Please be reassured that there’s lots of support available to you in the hospital and community after you’ve had your baby.
All maternity units and community health visiting teams within NHS Grampian have full UNICEF Baby Friendly status. Whether you are at home or in hospital, being Baby Friendly means you can expect excellent support and care.

Midwives are available to help you as a new mum and want to support you. You’ll get regular contact at home, tailored to your individual circumstances from your Midwife until around Day 10 and then your Health Visitor / Family Nurse will take over.
