Going home with your baby

If all is well with you and your baby, no further checks or monitoring is required and the time is right and appropriate for you and your baby, you can go home directly from the birthing suite. This can be soon after the birth should you wish, allowing you to enjoy that precious initial new family time getting to know your baby in the comfort of your own home.  How quickly you go home will depend on how you’re feeling.  If you’re both doing well you’ll usually be ready to go home somewhere between 6 and 24 hours after birth.

Your midwife will talk to you about when it is safe for you and your baby to go home and discuss your postnatal care plan and frequency of visits from the community midwife.
