Using an electric pump is often the quickest and most efficient way for mums to express their milk. Almost all maternity units have electric pumps for use in the unit. There are breast pumps that you can use in the neonatal unit at the cot side or in the expressing room. Your healthcare professional will support you with setting up and using the breast pump and carry out an expression of breastmilk assessment with you to ensure that expressing is effective.
