Your mental health and wellbeing after birth

As many as 1 in 5 mums have some experience of difficulty  with their mental health after having a baby. It’s very common.  When you become a parent, your life changes in lots of ways. It takes time to get to know your baby and new routine. Be kind to yourself and take things at your and your baby’s own pace. You’ll probably find you have mixed feelings about it – perhaps joy, pride and love mixed with anxiety, tearfulness and stress. These feelings are normal, and you can expect to feel up and down as you get used to your new role.

Family and friends can offer practical support but often a listening ear is just as important. Keep talking about how you are feeling and ask for more support if you need it. Your Midwife, Health visitor and GP can all offer advice and help.
